Welcome to the ldnmetarts.photography website.

This website is a space that celebrates the work made by the students and alumni of the BA Photography course at London Metropolitan University’s School of Art Architecture and Design.

As part of our programme students produce many public facing exhibitions, publications, events and festivals. This online space provides a digital platform to share these special projects. It showcases the students’ talents and the diversity of concerns, interests and approaches to the medium which are so important to our inclusive and creative community in which every student’s creative ambitions and aspirations are seen as a legitimate field of study. In launching and developing this space, we recognise the valuable role played by our students’ and alumni’s work in contributing to current debates in contemporary photography, visual art and cultural politics.

We encourage our students to be adventurous and to follow their creative and critical passions. As the content of this site builds over time, we hope that you enjoy the wonderful range of photographic genre and making processes our students have employed in addressing fine art, documentary and applied audiences alike. The works range from beautifully crafted traditional pieces using our analogue and darkroom facilities to digital stills, moving image work and CGI as well as hybrid practices that engage with other creative disciplines to expand the boundaries of photography as a medium.

About the course.

The BA Photography course at London Met is based at The School of Art, Aldgate. A blend of theory and practical learning is achieved through self-determined projects and varied methods of working. The course emphasises the importance of studio culture whilst facilitating industry-standard work-related learning. Encouraged to expand knowledge and skills in professional practice, we engage, but are not limited to, both digital and analogue photography, with freedom to venture into alternative image-based practices. Working closely with the BA Fashion Photography and BA Fine Art courses, we are given the opportunity to analyse, research and develop critical thinking as well as debate and discuss subject matters that correspond to presently affairs within and beyond the realms of art discourse. The university takes pride in its all-embracing, inclusive environment with access to wide-ranging, exceptional facilities, where students are truly respected and nurtured into pursuing well-rounded artistic success. This is expressed by way of effective, attentive and supportive tutorage and amongst BA Photography students’ successes, through individual imagination, active self-involvement in inspired group activity and an adventurous attitude towards work ethic, envisioned with a contemptuous, creative outlook.
