This is my friend Caitlin in a photograph I took in 2019. She dressed up in drag makeup and we did a photoshoot together. While drag is often mostly done by men, it is a form of self-expression that can be done by anyone. What I like about this photo is how happy and carefree she looks by expressing herself in a way that brings her joy. We were in the comfort of our student accommodation at the time, which meant we could have fun with it and enjoy ourselves. However, we didn't feel comfortable leaving the room due to the harassment we had received on our street previously for just existing as women.
I am longing for the day when women can wear whatever they like and whatever brings them joy, without having to worry about what men may do.
