Love Me Tender, 2021

Love Me Tender is an action; it is an allegorical revealing of former emotional darkness. It is a method of disconnecting from this trauma by removing a mask reflective of disguised, internal burdens. Visually, the mask’s skin is galvanised and becomes invasively manipulated to maintain the ‘monstrous’ essence aside from theatrics. The figurative act of shedding masks is a discarding or a confrontation of an experience that had been suppressed – the action then functions as a means of liberation, eliminating ‘its’ most threatening ‘monstrous’ elements for the individual.

Within the totality of my image-based practice, I find solace in experimenting with Gender outside of normative standardisations.

Love Me Long

A product of catharsis. An invitation for therapy. Monstrous feminine - left against a window pain, one that was left concealed. I have been a victim and the victim of my own mask, a guise which had been fashioned by heavy hands. In the absence of Self, a request for tenderness.
