Heavy Duty Cutie, 2021

Inspired by vanitas paintings, with commercial photography and retail merchandising in mind, I display the duality of the feminine and masculine in our identity. Industrious jobs like building, painting and decorating were considered man’s work and women were often seen as “less than a woman” for performing these supposedly masculine roles. We have proven over and over again, that we can do it too, not afraid to get our hands dirty, manual labourer or site manager, the motto is “get the job done.” In 2021, a number of educated females in the construction industry is increasing, along with architects and interior designers.

Women have become more resilient and independent, taking care of home and family, they are often breadwinners and sole carers. My first D.I.Y. teacher was my mum, a single parent and homemaker. Our home was always clean, functional and comfortable. Mum taught me what she knew and over the years my knowledge and skills grew.

Mum, I just want to say thank you.
